Community Connections - About the Service

Run by Age Concern, Community Connections is a new project within South Birmingham, which is helping older people in social isolation access community groups and health services.

Being a Carer can often lead to loss of confidence and feelings of isolation.  The project, although not specifically for Carers, seeks to address these problems that are so often experienced by them.  The person you care for may also benefit from this service.  The service is for anyone in who lives in South Birmingham who is over 50 years old.

So how does it work?

Volunteers visit people over an agreed period, helping them to gain confidence by assisting them in attending an activity of their choice, for example, local community activities, luncheon clubs, coffee mornings, local shops, leisure and faith groups.

The aim of the project is to promote the well being of older people and enable independence.  It will also provide Carers with an opportunity to use their limited free time more in a more varied, interractive way.

So, if you are wanting to get out but need a little encouragement in the form of a friendly companion, then please contact Age Concern - see below.
