AXIS Carers Project

AXIS is a city wide project, offering support and respite to South Asian and Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) people within the community who look after someone who has mental health difficulties. 

Support is offered on an individual basis according to needs, with the aim that carers have easy access to up-to-date and consistent information.

Support offered

  • Practical, emotional and culturally sensitive support and guidance
  • Links to existing adults social care support available from Birmingham City Council and links to Carer Support Groups 
  • Care for the carer or the person they care for
  • Training and information on mental health awareness
  • Information on how to access mental health services including carers emergency response teams
  • Providing information about carers breaks and respite services
  • Access to education or training
  • Alternative therapies, such as Indian Head Massage or Reflexology 
  • Support and information is available in Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali and Gujarati
  • Support for Young Carers (please see Young Carers section)
