CV Writing Service for Carers – What is there to write?
It is all too easy to feel unrecognised as a Carer and to become isolated. The idea of employment seems ludicrous and the Carer, believing that they’ve been left behind could well be thinking along the lines: “I’m just a carer – what is there that I can write on a CV?”
Well, plenty, actually! The Carer did not choose to become a Carer – he/ she had to adapt. The role of Caring often involves changes of plans at short notice and having to cope with the unexpected. Flexibility and ‘Thinking on your Feet’ are valuable skills very sought after by employers, and Carers are experts in demonstrating those skills in their daily tasks.
There are a host of other skills which may have been developed in a variety of ‘Caring’ tasks, for instance managing the medication of the Cared for person, financial planning on a tight budget, organising and co-ordinating with regard to perhaps transport or hospital appointments.
At Crossroads Opening Doors, we believe strongly in the skills and attributes of Carers and seek to support them in their goals with regard to Training/ Education and Employment.
We are therefore offering a FREE CV Writing Service exclusively for Carers on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, 10:00am to 4:00pm, at the Birmingham Carers Centre, 130 Colmore Row in the City centre.
Our Carer Tutor and Development Worker, Chris, will assist in defining the tasks the Carer performs in their caring role and then help in identifying the skills and attributes, which are demonstrated in those tasks. Finally, a CV is written which encapsulates all those skills and attributes identified, which the Carer can proudly submit to potential employers or providers of Training/ Education.
To access this service, Carers should call 0845 0945 855 (Mon or Tue, 10am to 4pm), and ask for Chris.
