First time healing questions
Questions from someone coming for healing for the first time.
Dear Sarah
I would like to come along to your next healing session with my Dad, who has never been before. Would you be able to give me a run down on what might happen?
Will many people be there?
Are they the same people every time?
Would we be the only new ones?
Is it a group session or one to one?
How long is each person’s session?
Sorry to ask so many questions, if it was just my self I would just turn up and see, only I think when I mention it to my Dad, he will be a little cautious.
Kind regards
Laura
The Healer replies
Dear Laura
I'll try to answer your questions as best I can. Probably the most useful thing to say to your Dad is that all he has to do is sit in a chair with his eyes closed for 15-20 minutes and feel deeply relaxed.
We're never sure how many people will turn up, last month it was five, the month before that, two. There are usually between two and six healers. I know that there will be at least four next week, one of whom will be me.
We have two rooms, one for greeting people, taking their details (because we have to keep records) and the other for doing the healing itself. The receptionist, Kathy, will fill out your form and then you will be assigned to one of the healers. Next week there should be Enid, Tom, Kathleen, Phil, me and possibly Anita and Andrew. All of us, apart from Andrew, are full members of the National Federation of Spiritual Healers (NFSH) and Andrew is our senior probationer.
Your healer will ask you if you've ever had healing before and if you haven't, they will tell you it is a way of giving energy to the body so that it can heal itself. We don't do anything but act as a “channel” or “drainpipe” for the energy, which we believe comes from the Divine, however you wish to represent them. The healer may also ask you if there is anything in particular you wish to have healing for and if you wish them to do any "hands on". You don't have to tell them anything if you don't want to, but if you have a bad back or painful knee, some people find it comforting for the healer to put their hand on the affected place. Otherwise we keep our hands about six inches away from the body at all times.
You will then be taken into the other room where there will be chairs set out and music playing quietly. You will be asked to sit in a chair with your hands on your knees and your feet flat on the floor. You may wish to remove your shoes if it makes you feel more comfortable. You will be asked to take three deep breaths and then to breath normally. When the healer starts, you will feel their hands on your shoulders, just before they finish they will put their hands on your feet and when they have finished, they will put their hands on your shoulders again. You can keep your eyes open or close them as you wish.
There may be other people in the room having healing, but once it is finished, they will be taken back into the ante room for a final chat. You will be asked if you would like to put any comments in our book or put names on the distant healing list. We don't charge for the healing, but we should be grateful for a donation to cover the cost of renting the rooms. We all give our services for nothing (or rather with love).
I do hope that gives you a feel for what will happen next Saturday. Most people find it a deeply relaxing experience. Although we never make any claims for curing anything, a lot of people who are experiencing pain, stress or discomfort find that it is lessened for a while.
Do feel free to ask anything else.
With best wishes
Sarah
